 Boards and Commissions
The Council of the City of Richmond has a strong commitment to citizen input and participation as evidenced by the number of citizen boards and commissions they have established. City Council has created over 70 advisory authorities, boards, commissions, and committees with more than 700 citizens serving on them.

These bodies compose a formal system through which citizens can advise City Council on issues affecting the City and also provide a wide variety of valuable technical, advisory, administrative, and judicial expertise to the City and its residents.

Boards and commissions address a wide range of city issues such as planning, youth and elderly services, transportation, parks & recreation, libraries, and the airport. Serving on a board or commission offers citizens an extraordinary opportunity to participate in the City’s governmental affairs and projects.

Appointments to boards and commissions are made by City Council. Persons interested in serving on a board or commission can obtain an application online and may request further information by calling the Office of the City Clerk at (804) 646-7955.
