Resolution No. 96-R106-100, adopted July 1, 1996, amended by Resolution No. 96-R145-146, adopted October 14 1996, as amended by Resolution No. 97-R93-145, adopted July 28, 1997, as amended by Resolution No. 2008-R145-158, adopted October 27, 2008, and Resolution No. 2009-R102-112, adopted July 27, 2009 (Va. Code Sec. 15.2-1535 authoriizes a City Council Representative to serve on the board).
COMPOSITION
Fifteen (15) members who shall be appointed by Council. (Code of Virginia Section 37.2-602 – no less than six and no more than 18 members.) Number of members increased to sixteen on 9/14/11 (16) and subsequently reduced to fifteen (15). Appointments to the Board of Directors shall be broadly representative of the community, to include consumers and family members of consumers when practical. One (1) city employee shall be nominated by the mayor and one (1) member of City Council. (Assigned to the Education and Human Services Standing Committee).
TERM OF OFFICE
Of the Directors who are first appointed, one-third shall serve for terms of one (1) year, one-third shall serve for terms of two (2) years, and one-third shall serve for terms of three (3) years. Thereafter, the term of office shall be three (3) years. No person shall be eligible to serve more than three (3) successive terms, although persons appointed to fill vacancies may serve three (3) additional terms.
